Daily life takes a slow and methodical pace
Walking around the high school across our street and around our neighborhood are the norm.
We see the marquee of the Santa Barbara County Bowl and hear their venues on our patio. Now we learn that Paul McCartney is headed to Santa Barbara on Friday the 26th!
We see the dog walkers, encounter friends, and take stairs.
And we always check the mail in the afternoon!
Mike was the first archaeologist I met. After graduating from high school in the class of winter 1960. I decided to go to Santa Monica City College. I planned to become an archaeologist or a paleontologist. I also decided I would become more sociable and went to club day. Mike was at a table for the anthropology club with artifacts from the Tank site In Topanga. It was because of Mike that I decided to become an archaeologist. I followed Mike to UCLA and lived at the COOP as did Mike and also had office space at the Archaeological Survey. We were always friends. Fern Mathias always spoke to me about death. She said that until she had an operation at the age of three she was In pain. She said death was an escape from pain, anxiety, and responsibility. She said the loss was greatest for those who loved someone. I will miss Mike.
